Found spinning tunes at local and national swing events, Eric is a highly sought-after disc jockey whose mix of soulful and inspiring music gets dancers on their feet. Primarily a West Coast Swing DJ, he also plays for lindy hop, hustle, country and ballroom dances. As a WCS DJ, he focuses on variety and feeling, stressing R&B - from classic to contemporary - as well as pop, blues, jazz, hip-hop, and funk.
Eric selects his music based on four important criteria. The first criteria is that the song should make you want to dance. If it doesn't make you want to dance, it shouldn't be heard on the dancefloor. Secondly, the song should have the appropriate "feel" for the given dance style. Music with a cha-cha rhythm is great for cha-cha, but perhaps not best for west coast swing. The song should also have variation in its melody and harmony. Variation breeds innovation in dancers, challenging them to be more articulate in their musical interpretation. Besides, music without variation quickly becomes monotonous, boring, and uninspiring. Finally, Eric selects songs with "soul" - a word he uses to describe songs with emotional depth. Soul is the most inspiring element of music, and the one that gets dancers up and moving.
